Can I get the box made in pine or cedar?
We are using thermally treated ash & spruce woods that have specific properties that can withstand being outside in the elements. Ash and spruce are darker in colour naturally. “Thermal modification uses heat to remove organic compounds from the wood cells, so it will not absorb water, expand, contract, or provide nourishment for insects or fungi. The high heat produces a naturally durable wood that is permanently resistant to water, insects, and decay.”
Can I leave my cell phone in it all day in the hot sun?
Safe On The Dock is a temporary catchall for your stuff. It is not a permanent place to store your electronics over a long period of time. The box was tested in Muskoka on a dock that is in the sunlight most of the day. The box was kept beside the Muskoka chairs in a shady spot and cell phones were left inside of the box for 3 hours with no issues.
Can I leave Safe On The Dock outside on the dock all summer long in the elements?
We recommend bringing the box into the boathouse or up to the cottage when not in use. Because it’s made of wood rain would eventually penetrate the surface. Like any outdoor wood product it can take time for the wood to dry out completely.
Do you have trays for the inside of the box to separate our families stuff?
We are working on this. Accessories will be available soon that you can buy to create a more personalized usage experience.
Can I paint the box to match our cottage colours?
Yes you can. We finish the boxes with a product called Cutek, it is an extreme exterior wood protection oil. Instead of purchasing a box with this treatment we can send you a box without this treatment and then you can paint the box with the exterior paint that has been used on your cottage or boathouse!
